What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shoreside Tankerman Trainee position at Sprenger Health Care Systems?
Shore-based Tankermen are responsible for conducting safe transfers of cargo for Tank Barge Cleaning. This includes safely loading and unloading liquid tank barges for contract customers while adhering to all relevant safety procedures and regulations. To qualify for this position, individuals must possess and maintain a current USCG license with applicable endorsements.
Essential Tankerman Duties:
- Adhere to all CTC Safety policies, government regulations, and procedures for loading, unloading, and transport.
- Complete pre-transfer inspection requirements, pre-transfer conference, and the Declaration of Inspection.
- Prepare all necessary documents according to applicable USCG regulations.
- Participate in the annual Benzene Monitoring Program.
- Connect cargo hoses or loading arms, initiate pumping, and increase pressure appropriately for normal discharge pressure. Conduct barge inspections, audits, and repairs when not performing a transfer.
- Use all required safety equipment effectively as per company policies.
- Calculate loading rates, monitor all loadings to ensure safe and environmentally sound procedures, and secure cargo systems.
- Perform minor repairs on barge equipment.
- Fulfill other duties as needed.
Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC
- Possess a valid and current Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a Tankerman-PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids endorsement OR have the capability to pass the USCG physical examination and meet the requirements for obtaining a USCG MMC license.
- Possess at least one year of experience working as a Tankerman or other relevant position within the maritime industry.
- Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record to operate a company vehicle to and from sites as required.
Preferred Educational and Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
Physical Capabilities - Ability to perform the following:
- Ascend/Descend a 90-degree ladder up to 40 feet.
- Move, transport, and position equipment up to 60 pounds, independently.
- Position self to move through an 18-inch diameter hatch, and the ability to enter Confined Spaces.
- Must be respirator fit at all times and cleared for fit testing annually.
- Constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Work shift of no more than 16 hours, per USCG regulation
