Position Summary
The Volunteer Wellness Coach serves as a consultant for Summer Leaders that are in relationships with Campers. The Wellness Coach helps to equip Summer Leaders with additional tools in their toolbelt related to understanding mental health concerns amongst campers. The Wellness Coach comes alongside Summer Leaders with critical issues that arise while camp is in session. Wellness Coaches have the heart of a teacher, with a willingness to coach others in relationship with Campers who are experiencing mental health concerns.
Key Job Functions
Be present to offer support to Summer Leaders and to provide coaching on the variety of mental health and behavioral concerns- Assist SpringHill program Leadership Staff as a mental health consultant, assessing mental health situations and provide wisdom and direction on actions steps
- Virtual Consultant for issues that arise at Day Camp remote locations
- Support and coach SpringHill staff with appropriate responses to behavioral issues with campers and cabin groups.
- Assist SpringHill staff in creating a plan to ensure positive behaviors and improved group dynamics
- Provide counsel and support to those responsible to report child abuse and/or neglect to DHS authorities
- Offer support to campers dealing with mental health issues directly only when within eye-shot of responsible Summer Leader
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Guest Services Manager
Experience and Qualifications Requirements
- Commitment to the mission and ministry philosophy of SpringHill
Master’s degree and licensure (or limited licensure) in the mental health field within the state they are serving in required- Adherence to SpringHill’s statement of faith and completion of Onboarding processes required
Clarifying Information
Wellness Coaches offer to coach, support and consult with Summer Leader and Campers, but do not provide diagnoses, ongoing long-term therapy, mental health counseling or therapeutic services- Dates Volunteers are needed:
June 11 through June 17
June 18 through June 24
June 25 through July 1
July 9 through July 15
July 16 through July 22
July 23 through July 29
Provisions
- While operating under SpringHill’s authority, licensed medical professionals are fully insured through SpringHill’s insurance policy
- Camp housing and food will be provided
- Mileage for volunteer related travel will be reimbursed dependent on the travel required for the role
- Children and/or grandchildren will receive 50% off of tuition for summer camp with a maximum of 4 children and/or grandchildren
- SpringHill will provide a copy of the Mental Health Policy along with a detailed “welcome packet” that includes best practices and additional logistical information
