Springfield College invites application for the position of Assistant Director of Student Activities. This role will provide leadership and coordination for college-wide programming and administrative oversight, advisement and direction to the Campus Activities Board and aspects of the New Student Orientation (NSO) program. Support programs and services of the Office of Student Activities and Campus Programs by providing workshops, marketing of services, and creation of retreats, assessment tools, and support for student generated programs. Provides advisement and direction to the College's week-long spring programming week, Springfield College Dance Marathon, and assists with advising the Class Councils.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive college-wide programming schedule in concert with College partners. Implement a diverse calendar of events that promote socially responsible programming that appeals to a diverse student population.
- Advise the CAB (Campus Activities Board) and co-advise the Springfield College Dance Marathon. Fiscally responsible for maintaining budgets for both groups totaling $165,000 and ability to negotiate contracts with outside agencies.
- Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of NSO leaders in addition to maintaining the offices web presence for the program.
- Evaluate and assess appropriate risk management policies, procedures, and issues of campus safety for student programs and events and ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures, particularly contracting and purchasing policies and procedures.
- Provide direction and advisement for week-long traditional week of programming and collaboration with many College partners.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range planning; develops tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established goals.
- Represent the department on various College committees; participate in state, regional, and national professional organizations.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration or related field is required with 1-3 years of work-related experience, preferably in higher education Student Activities.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent customer service concepts and best practices. Excellent writing and communication skills, tact, sensitivity and mature judgment are required. Conflict mediation and resolution skills; and a strong knowledge of student development theory and student personnel administration. Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities. Must be able to foster a cooperative working environment with students and other college offices. Ability to work nights, weekends and occasional travel.
- Ability to identify and secure funding resources and to work within the existing budgets. Plan, organize, and direct multiple programs and activities. Work with diverse populations, assess and refer, evaluate programs, conflict mediation and resolution skills, moderate physical effort required and ability to lift more than 50lbs
- Direct experience with overseeing approximately 53 events per semester to ensure the events go smoothly with AV and timely payment for all performers.
- Confident and comfortable with conflict mediation within a student group. Ability to answer phone calls pertaining to NSO about different offices. Crisis Management at any event.
- A self-starter who can work effectively as a team member and independently; lead by example. An outgoing and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills via all methods of communications, and a collaborative working style, and ability to successfully work with large and complex organizations.
- Must be professional, organized, detail-oriented with proven ability to prioritize, creative and efficient, able to work successfully both individually and as part of a team; and maintain confidentiality. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
