Description

SUMMARY Provides cleaning services to the Squaxin Island Tribal government buildings. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

On a daily schedule, this position must provide the following services:

Empty garbage and recycle containers

Mop, vacuum, and sweep 

Dust

Clean and sanitize restrooms

Other janitorial related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Background check standards for Janitorial staff: No felonies or property crimes within past 5 years. No drug or alcohol arrests within one year and if currently enrolled drug and alcohol recovery program, employee will be required to provide continuing proof of compliance with program requirements including any prescribed testing and/or successful completion of the program. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and pass a background check (no felonies or property crimes within five years; no drug or alcohol arrests within one year and if currently enrolled in a drug or alcohol recovery program, employee will be required to provide continuing proof of compliance with program requirements including any prescribed testing and/or successful completion of the program).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear; and occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds. This position also requires close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 or more feet); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); depth perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and risk of electrical shock; and is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and must occasionally work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; and work in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level of this position is moderate, (i.e. business office with computers, and printers, light traffic) and includes the noise associated with running a vacuum cleaner and a carpet shampooer.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE: The successful candidate will be required to have a urinalysis for drug and alcohol screening in accordance with the Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace Policy.

INDIAN PREFERENCE: Indian Preference will be exercised in the hiring of this position in accordance with the Tribe’s Personnel Policies.

Requirements

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: AA  OR High School diploma or GED and two years of related experience.
