Description of Role:
SRI Telecom is hiring an OSP Fiber Designer Technician with expertise in OSP mapping and designing new fiber connections to commercial customers. The role involves identifying tie points, planning fiber routes, reserving ITU wavelengths, assigning designs to contractors, and updating tracking databases throughout the design lifecycle. The consultant will also handle cost estimating based on Comcast contracted rates.
Tasks:
- Design OSP Fiber laterals and ISP Patch panel layouts, creating bills of materials and supporting documentation.
- Determine optimal tie-in points for new customers and manage necessary walkouts.
- Review and ensure the accuracy of completed designs, maintaining design specifications.
- Analyze OTDR traces, troubleshoot fiber circuits, and document test results.
- Provide technical documentation, support Specialists, and assist in resolving requests and complaints.
- May advise, train, and guide other designers, demonstrating flexibility in work schedule.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Experience with reviewing utility as-built maps (fiber, telco, etc.) to identify current routes and splice points.
- Experience in OSP construction, fiber construction, copper construction, utility construction.
- Knowledge of underground and overhead permitting desired.
- Knowledge of pole lines, make ready assessments and system maps preferred.
- Knowledge of easement, right-of-way, and permit documents is preferred
- Competence in design methodology, process, and metrics
- Must be able to navigate the use of a laptop and multiple sources of data (Google Maps, CAD, system maps)
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
