Summary
Performs quality control and quality assurance review and inspections necessary to maintain high standards of quality throughout SRP.
Provides material failure analysis and specialized non-destructive examination (NDE) requirements. Reviews specifications and designs for compliance to applicable codes.
What You'll Do
- Audits and / or performs applicable regulatory code and engineering inspections on associated power plant equipment.
- Develops standards and procedures as related to quality control and NDE functions for use throughout SRP.
- Reviews specifications and designs for technical accuracy and completeness to applicable codes.
- Performs or directs failure analyst activities in the areas of elements, materials, and coatings.
- Performs surveillance of quality control methods and products supplied by vendors under contract to SRP.
- Determines needs and requests specialized NDE utilizing PT, MT, UT, & ET.
- Provides inspection services on received material for determination of acceptability.
- Prepares sketches, graphs, work order and budget requests, investigations and technical reports.
- Advises engineering groups in the areas of welding, quality control and NDE.
- Attends technical society meetings in the field of interest.
- Attends project meetings as consultant.
- Performs related work, as required and / or assigned; Attends training programs, seminars, conferences and meetings; Fills in and / or assists others.
What It Takes To Succeed
- Knowledge of construction methods, power plant equipment and operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Knowledge of project organization and general policies, purchasing, warehousing, and accounting procedures.
- Moderate ability in the use of calculator.
- Ability to tabulate data, maintain files and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of electricity, mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, structural materials, metallurgy, welding processes, etc.
- Ability to take readings with engineering test and measurement instruments.
- Duties require mental alertness, concentration and occasional out of town travel to remote facilities for extended periods.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret standards and codes, I.E., ASME, AWS, ANSI, ASTM, ASNT, API, AISC, etc.
- Knowledge and ability to function in quality control related activities, I.E., welding inspection, vendor surveillance, material control ,etc.
- Must maintain certification to SNT-TC-1A, Level II in UT, PT, MT, & ET. Knowledge and experience in performing specification review.
- Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit testing and training required.
Additional Information :
Completion of an Associate's Degree, Apprenticeship, 60 college credit hours from an accredited instituation, or the successful completion of level II ultrasonic testing, level II radiographic testing, level II magnetic particle testing, level II penetrant testing, and level II visual testing courses in accordance with SNT-TC-1A from an accredited institution either separately or as a part of a comprehensive and focused certificate program in non destructive testing.
Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in quality control inspections or as an NDE technician is required for Specialist.
Must be a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) as certified by the American Welding Society (AWS) for Specialist.
Promotion to Specialist Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience in quality control inspections or as an NDE technician, an AWS CWI certification, and full competency in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Education
Completion of an Associate's degree, Apprenticeship, or 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week.
