Maintenance Worker
Role:
Performs daily activities involved in keeping buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition; in maintaining and repairing physical structures of buildings; maintains, upgrades and repairs utility systems; services and repairs appliances, vehicles, equipment and furnishings of the agency.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Systems Operations Performs routine repair and preventative maintenance functions including Replacement of broken or failed building components such as lighting, HVAC filters, outlet covers, etc. Moving of furniture, supplies, etc. Minor repair of equipment, furniture, etc. Responds to daily Maintenance Work Requests from “customers” as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor, according to established protocol Performs basic grounds keeping tasks including Trimming, and edging lawns Gathering and removing litter Seasonal snow removal and ice abatement Maintenance of landscaped/ planted beds Operates various power equipment, such as golf carts, grounds vehicles, snow removal equipment, etc. Ensures accurate and timely completion of maintenance and safety related records and reports
- Internal and External Collaboration Maintains a cordial and positive demeanor in interactions with other agency personnel and with clients and students. Seeks guidance and direction from supervisor as needed
- Safety Operates and stores tools and equipment in a safe manner, so as to ensure personal safety and the safety of others Follows all required agency safety policies and procedures Complies with all governmental workplace safety requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:
The position requires at least one year experience in related maintenance trade and a high school diploma or equivalency (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Must possess minimum technical skills including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that is insurable by the agency’s insurer.
Work Environment:
Exposed to a combination of office and shop environments. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil , fumes and noise. May be exposed to working outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
May be exposed to children with behavior problems. May be exposed to shouting and clients who may be verbally and physically aggressive. May be exposed to blood, vomit and bodily fluids.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
sit, stand, walk, bend and lift objects of up to 50 pounds. Some heavy lifting and considerable moving of equipment required. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in changing weather conditions is required.
