POSITION SUMMARY
As a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, the Priest Chaplain is responsible for the sacramental needs of all Catholic patients and is committed to respect the dignity and faith tradition of each individual. He offers spiritual support to patients, their families and hospital staff. The Priest Chaplain also facilitates communication concerning patients and their faith communities in cooperation with the local Director of Pastoral Care and/or the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the delivery of a complete program of pastoral care to patients, their loved ones, and staff in a manner that is in accordance with Christ's healing mission and true to the teaching of the Catholic Church.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Priestly ordination according to the Roman rite to the Roman Catholic Church.
- Demonstrated by Ordination Certificate
- Maintaining "good standing" with the Catholic Church, one's own diocesan Bishop or Religious Superior, and the local Ordinary (Bishop).
- Ability to interface with and support individuals from diverse cultural and faith traditions.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams of doctors, nurses, social workers, etc.
- Must be willing to attend 1200 hours (3 units) of Clinical Pastoral Education within 3 years of beginning ministry in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
- Experience ministering to the sick, suffering and dying.
- Immigration status must be current and in accordance with United States Homeland Security requirements.
EDUCATION
- Theology Degree from Catholic Seminary
- Transcripts of academic records
SKILLS
- Excellent pastoral and communication skills.
- Ability to be pastorally present in difficult circumstances.
- Multi-denominational cultural and religious knowledge and sensitivity.
- Assessment of the spiritual needs of those served, grounded in theology and with an understanding of the behavioral sciences.
- Competence in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn and implement system software in reasonable time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical, spiritual and emotional health sufficient to perform duties of the position.

- After-hour emergency calls between the hours of 9pm - 6am are to be made only in cases where the patient is in danger of death and the sacrament of anointing has not yet been administered.
