About St. Christopher’s ORR Program

St. Christopher’s Inc is planning to open a Residential Shelter for unaccompanied children under the auspices of the Department of Health and Human Services. We are interested in providing shelter and support for unaccompanied youth ages, 10 to 12 in one facility and 13 to 17 in the other facility or according to the needs of ORR. St. Christopher’s is prepared to accept youth of all genders and sexual orientation. It is our intent to welcome them to our facility, make them feel safe and comfortable, and assist them in acclimation to their new culture and home while honoring their own cultures, traditions, and religious beliefs. It is also our mission to locate and connect these youth with family members or willing sponsors in the most expeditious and safe manner. While in our care youth will receive, trauma informed therapeutic services, educational services designed to promote readiness for American schooling, including English language instruction, age-appropriate vocational training as well as age-appropriate adaptive living skills. Recreation services will be provided daily, and religious services provided in the community according to the child’s religious affiliation and desire. Medical services will be provided both for the well child and any medical concerns that may arise. Care managers will work with the youth, ORR and sponsors or outside agencies to ensure that youth are appropriately discharged with an appropriate sponsor.

Job Description

Case Managers are responsible for performing a variety of duties including coordinating the completion of assessments of the unaccompanied child, completing individual service plans, assessing potential sponsors, making transfer and release recommendations, and coordinating the release of the youth from ORR care and custody. Case Managers are expected to complete all steps required to safely and quickly release the youth to appropriate sponsors promptly and, on an average, within 30 days of referral.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the completion of all assessments according to the guidelines of ORR
  • Identify and contact the potential sponsor
  • Ensure that the information gathered is shared with the appropriate staff and stakeholders during the assessment process
  • Responsible for the development and completion an Individual Service Plan for the youth
  • Participate in weekly meetings to provide weekly updates to the Case Coordinator and the FFS on the progress that is being made towards a safe and timely release
  • Communicate with Case Coordinator and FFS any challenges that may delay a timely discharge of the youth
  • Provide weekly status reports to the UAC on the youth’s case and provision of services
  • Provide the stakeholders with information that the child may not have a potential sponsor
  • Initiate and maintain on going communication with potential sponsor
  • Gather sponsor information and upload all the information gathered
  • Assess whether the sponsor is a suitable sponsor and can safely provide for the child’s physical and mental well-being
  • Provide direct assistance on completing the sponsor application and inform the sponsor any procedures related to the youth’s case
  • Inform the sponsor of their need to attend a presentation by the Legal Orientation Program for Custodians
  • Involve the sponsor in making a plan for the youth.
  • Keep the sponsor informed of the youth’s progress and current functioning
  • Provide the sp0onsor with information about the youth’s needs in order to assess the sponsor’s ability to provide care and services for the youth
  • Discuss services that are available in the sponsor’s community to meet the needs of the youth
  • Make a recommendation to the Case Coordinator for the youth’s discharge
  • Responsible for compiling the paper case file

About You

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following areas in behavioral sciences, human sciences, or social service field
  • You have two years of relevant experience (relevant Experience refers to providing direct services to UC children)
  • You are familiar with agency and ORR regulations and guidelines concerning the provision of psychological services to children in residential shelters
  • You can maintain required written program documentation in accordance with ORR guidelines
  • You can establish and maintain positive rapport with the youth, sponsors, staff and stakeholders
  • You are Bilingual in Spanish
  • You have excellent bilingual oral and written communication skills
