Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works toward the maintenance of health and prevention of illness, observes and cares for persons experiencing changes in their health processes, and evaluates health practices of patients. Performs patient care that requires knowledge and skill acquired in an approved school of practical nursing. Carries out duties and responsibilities as authorized by the Kentucky Board of Nursing under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assigned tasks will depend on the LPN scope of practice and skill competency to perform these acts in a safe effective manner.
Duties/Responsibilities
Graduate from a formal education program in Practical Nursing.
Experience
Previous nursing experience in a physician office practice preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Must hold a current license from the Kentucky Board of Nursing. CPR certification required.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs all skills of phlebotomy, prepares specimens for transport to reference labs, and shows competency in performance of in-clinic lab testing.
- Performs nursing procedures as permitted by licensure and as assigned by Registered Nurse/Licensed Medical Professional.
- Assists medical staff with examinations, treatments, and procedures according to nursing guidelines.
- Prepares and administers medications according to established policy and procedure and as permitted by licensure.
- Transcribes physician orders accurately and completely.
- Assesses learning needs of the patient/family; plans, provides, evaluates & documents patient/family education.
- Performs patient triage according to established protocols and schedules patient appointments.
- Makes referral and/or consult appointments and schedules patients for admission and/or outpatient diagnostic testing obtaining preauthorization’s and/or precertification’s for insurance purposes as appropriate.
- Provides for the safety of patients.
- Collects and reports data concerning patient care needs according to policy and procedures.
- Utilizes St. Claire resources and equipment for patient care efficiently.
- Assures that clinical areas are in order for medical staff to provide patient care.
- Responsible for the security of the clinical area in order to prevent unauthorized entry in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Manages medical records according to established policies and procedures.
- Uses proper telephone technique including completing telephone message forms and appropriate documentation.
- Cooperates with others in the clinic in completing tasks according to work routine so that work can be done in minimal time and be shared in order for all functions to be completed prior to the close of the workday.
