What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aircraft Planner position at ST Engineering?
The Assistant Planner provides technical estimations and recommendations for all aircraft maintenance and modification projects requested by the Marketing department in the sales of man-hours, materials, etc. Completes all the planning and communication for maintenance projects contracted with ST Aerospace San Antonio; this includes liaison with Project Managers, customers and related departments.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write work cards for all customer requested AD’s and service bulletins. Ensure that these contain only the customer requested options.
- Create work cards to coincide with the engineering drawings that have been released. These should mirror the drawing as much as possible and provide for accurate documentation of critical steps. Coordinate with production and engineering to ensure completeness and accuracy. These documents will be required for conformity.
- Using contracted man-hours as a guide and in conjunction with production, develop a man-hour estimate for each card.
- Using estimates and projected man loading, develop a detailed production flow plan and man loading schedule.
- Create a final work scope for the aircraft. This should list or reference all items to be accomplished and call specific attention to pacing items. It should include a complete B.O.M. broken down by card and job number; contain detail provisions for over and above work such as man-hour caps or inspection items from which discrepancies are over and above. Schedule requirements and other relevant details should also be included. This should be ready for each production department 4-5 days prior to aircraft input.
- Create a detailed status bi-weekly to be presented to the customer and production departments at the aircraft status meetings. This should be inclusive of pacing item progress, paperwork status, overall work accomplishment and material requirements.
- When assigned by the department head, provide man-hour estimates on work packages forwarded from marketing/contracts. Research and liaise with production on man-hours estimation and turn- around time.
- Create a defined schedule of man-hours estimates, by AD, service bulletin, maintenance check, etc. The line items definitions must include statements such as routine only, inspection only, terminating action, etc.
- Make a recommendation about a non-routine factor based on aircraft age, cycle, and condition if known, operating environment, maintenance program, or other factors as required.
- Make recommendation as to a turn-around time based on man loading, tooling, experience, etc.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Good working knowledge or the ability to acquire skills in the following: Working knowledge of all aircraft manuals and related materials; working knowledge of aircraft maintenance and non-destructive testing; knowledge of all paperwork procedures including job cards/time cards, routine/non-routine cards, S.R.M.’s, and work sign-off procedures; familiar with F.A.R.’s and company policies and procedures; Knowledge of AD’s, service bulletins and all operator letter (AOL); ability to acquire knowledge of computer mainframe and software applications; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads and customer representatives.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
SUPERVISION
Under general direction. Performs assignments after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. Some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Assignment usually reviewed upon completion.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
A strong level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship between various departments, management and customer representatives.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Essential responsibilities are performed in a climate controlled office but not limited to the office. Must be able to cope with stress and mental exhaustion due to the pressures of accomplishing set goals, meeting short deadlines, maintaining numerous projects simultaneously, employee confrontations and long work hours. Must be able to climb work stands and access all parts of the aircraft.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High School diploma. A&P license preferred.
EXPERIENCE
1-2 years commercial aviation, preferably repair station oriented, general knowledge of A/C maintenance/maintenance planning.
