Job Summary:
The Clinical Manager is responsible for providing leadership, role modeling, mentoring, vision, direction and inspiration to the Inpatient Rehab Facility (IRF). The Clinical Manager is responsible for the hiring, supervision and evaluation of staff. Provides professional and technical support to IRF staff. Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of training, orientation and educational programs for assigned staff. In collaboration with the Director of Nursing; helps develop, implement, monitor and evaluate quality assurance activities, ensuring regulatory compliance. Recommends new or revised policies and procedures to the Director of Nursing. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Essential Functions:
Leadership
Makes timely, appropriate decisions and acts to handle situations and bring resolution and/or refers issues to the Director of Nursing when necessary. Oversees the work of others by training, allocating and monitoring work activities. Gives feedback and coaching as appropriate and in a timely manner. Develops and maintains a cohesive team that supports excellence in patient care and a collaborative work environment. Assists with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Inpatient Rehab Facility.
Management
Ensures current departmental job descriptions which delineate the functions, responsibilities and desired qualifications exist for each position in the department; reviews and revises as necessary. Develops and maintains employee staff schedule, ensuring adequate staffing at all times. Flexes staffing appropriately during low volume times. Monitors employee time keeping and finalization of time card approval. Monitors adherence to policy, procedures and practice guidelines, in accordance with SJH's Vision, Mission, and Values. Responsible for hiring and termination decisions. Responsible for the evaluation and development of departmental budget and adherence of said budgets. Communicates clearly and timely to appropriate administrative leaders around new program ideas, issues of importance that need immediate attention; looks to leadership for guidance when necessary. Works with leadership team and HR on staff recruitment and retention.
Education/Orientation/Staff Development
Communicates changes, additions and deletions of policies and procedures to staff through monthly staff meetings, memos, bulletin boards, emails, and formal in-services. Provides orientation, education and training as needed, internally and externally to IRF staff and clinical partners. Assures IRF staff annual competency and safety compliance. Appraise performance of staff members. Develops staff performance plans and professional goals. Implement any necessary corrective plans. Coordinate and monitor departmental Performance Improvement projects. Gives on-going feedback to staff in a positive manner as it relates to competency validation.
Patient Care/Departmental Operations
Coordinate the evaluation and assist with purchasing of products and equipment. Assure safe and appropriate departmental working environment. Assure appropriate supply inventory. Monitor and report all patient care, safety, medication, and technical employee incidents. Provide feedback and implement corrective actions. Participate in expansion of new services and upgrades. Assume patient care as necessary according to the RN IRF job description.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
Coordinates medical and nursing management of patients. Facilitates interdisciplinary care team and coordinates care between disciplines for patients through the continuum of care. Plans, promotes and attends interdisciplinary patient care conferences to foster case management as well as patient and family engagement in the discharge planning process. Communicates effectively with the medical staff to problem-solve and uses proper chain of command. Promotes cooperative interaction and communication between medical staff members and nursing personnel in all departments in a positive, respectful manner.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Required: Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)
Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
Minimum Work Experience:
Required: Minimum five years of experience in an acute care clinical setting. Demonstrated leadership abilities with excellent oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills. Exemplary interpersonal and customer service skills.
Preferred: Progressive leadership experience within the Inpatient Rehab Facility at SJH
Required Licenses: Valid RN license with authority to practice in WY. BLS and CPI required at time of hire.
Functional Demands:
Working Conditions: Hospital Inpatient Rehab Facility. Frequent stressful situations. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements: 75% of time standing or walking. Irregular hours, meals and breaks. Must possess sight/hearing senses to meet job requirements. Intermittent computer use. Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment and supplies. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
