What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Shift Lead position at St. John's Ministries?
Our Overnight Shift Leads are a critical component of our ability to provide a safe, comfortable environment for our guests, staff and volunteers, and to ensure all guest needs are met throughout the night and morning.
Shifts available for this position are 11:30pm-9am seven days a week. Minimum of one shift per week.
The essential functions of the Overnight Shift Lead include:
- Supervising two other staff members. Overseeing all shelter operations throughout the shift.
- Addressing guest concerns.
- Monitoring guest behavior. Recognizing potentially threatening situations, deescalating or directing Security Staff.
- Writing clear and descriptive notes regarding guest issues.
- Entering guest data into computer system.
- Completing intake packets with new guests presenting to shelter.
- Communicating concerns of staff, guests or volunteers to shelter leadership.
- Engaging and building rapport with shelter guests.
- Routinely checking in with staff and volunteers.
- Completing other tasks as needed.
Necessary Skills:
- Experience working with low-income individuals, mental health and substance abuse issues preferred but not required.
- A strong desire to serve others in the community.
- A positive attitude.
- A calm demeanor when dealing with challenging personalities.
- Responsibility to present for your assigned shifts, or to find coverage if you cannot.
- Excellent leadership ability.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work well as a member of a team.
- Comfort with multitasking.
- Initiative to address issues that may arise.
