What are the responsibilities and job description for the STERILE PROCESSING TECH - FULL TIME EVENING - DES PERES CAMP... position at St. Luke's Hospital?
Principle Accountabilities:

Demonstrates safe operation of equipment/devices in the work area and proper reporting of safety hazards.
Sterilization 5%
Sterilize instruments, equipment, utensils, linen and supplies using various types of sterilizers and aerators
Load sterilizers in the prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized.
Complete appropriate documentation records before and after sterilization.
Read and interpret sterilizer printouts to verify appropriate sterilization cycle and provide records required by the JCAHO.
Instrument Knowledge 25%
Assemble all instrument procedure sets, trays, packs, and kits using count sheets as a guide.
Assemble and wrap material, surgical instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique.
Mark items with identifying data and distribute or store in designated area.
Notify supervisor when unable to replace parts or equipment and and about deficiencies in the work area.
Distribution 5%
Dispense requested sterile and nonsterile equipment and supplies. (case carts or orders)
Assign priority to emergency requests.
Issue required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended.
Assemble and wrap material, surgical instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique.
Decontamination 45%
Disassemble and clean equipment and instruments using appropriate disinfectants, soaps and cleaners.
Reassemble equipment after cleaning and operate to test for proper functioning.
Replace lost or damaged parts such as tubes, containers, and connectors from stock on hand.
Complete required forms and transfer inoperable equipment to the appropriate holding area for repair.
Staff Responsibilities 5%
Utilizes effective communication strategies.
Works effectively as part of a team.
Utilizes appropriate chain of command to achieve resolutions.
Participates in orientation of staff/students in department.
Attends 50% of department meetings and 100% of mandatory meetings.
Unit Responsibilities 5%
Maintains a neat, organized and safe work environment.
Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians and other staff.
Demonstrates a professional and supportive attitude.
Is receptive and responsive to new ideas.
Is flexible to changing systems and practices.
Participates in unit/integrated service projects (PI).
Professional Responsibilities 5%
Completes annual training requirements without reminder.
Meets dress code standards of assigned area (PPE).
Wears identification while on duty.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled utilizing the Time and Attendance system.
Performs other work duties as assigned. Total 100% Education:
High school diploma or GED plus specialized training in Sterile Processing or 3 years of Sterile Processing related experience preferred.
Experience: Specialized training in Sterile Processing or 3 years of Sterile Processing related experience preferred.Must attain certification as a CRCST or CSPDT within 18 months of hire. Working Conditions: Employee is required to sit occasionally and stand and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a medium –up to 30 lbs. load frequently. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, kneel, lift waist to overhead. Employee is frequently required to reach forward and reach overhead. Employee may be required to push/pull up to 400 lbs. Exposure risks - respiratory hazards Physical hazards – Employee is frequently exposed to noise and extreme heat (steam sterilizers). Employee is frequently exposed to Chemical hazards (Detergents, cleaners and sterilants) Employee is frequently exposed to Hazardous material/waste handled (bloodborne pathogens)
