Position Title: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Reports To: Executive Director of Advancement
FLSA: Full-time, Exempt
Catholic: Preferred
St. Mary’s Parish is a vibrant Catholic congregation located in Historic Annapolis, Maryland serving over 5,000
families. St. Mary’s Parish includes St. Mary’s Church, St. John Neumann Mission Church, St. Mary’s Elementary
School and St. Mary’s High School.
Purpose: The Director of Development is to raise funds for St. Mary’s Parish and Schools.
The Director of Development is responsible for organizing the fundraising efforts and
solicitations for the annual fund, major/planned gifts, capital gifts, priority projects of the
parish and/or schools and endowed gifts.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, manage and implement annual giving, major gifts and capital campaign. This
solicitation, gift processing, database management, acknowledgements and
stewardship.
- Identify potential major donors – individual, corporate and foundation. Cultivate and
communication with them.
- Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of prospective donors.
- Direct capital campaign and other major fundraising drives.
- Set priorities to meet annual goals in development and enrollment.
- Work to create and support a culture of philanthropy within the parish and schools.
- Promote understanding, acceptance and support of the vision and mission statements
- Assist with events within the advancement department – securing sponsors, event
- In coordination with the Events and Alumni Coordinator, identity fundraising
- Work with communications and marketing, but these two areas do not fall under the
managerial purview of the Director of Development
- Work with Controller on proper recording of donations.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of professional advancement experience in major gifts,
- Ability to effectively communicate the values and mission of St. Mary’s Parish and
- Superb interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Highly self-directed with an attention to detail
- Demonstrates excellence in organizations, managerial and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally.
