Job Summary:
St. Nicholas Landmark is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to oversee the operations of our vibrant restaurant and bar in Chester, IL. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in the food industry, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service. This role involves managing daily operations, driving business growth, and ensuring the highest standards of service and quality.
Key Responsibilities:Operational Management:
- Day-to-Day Operations: Oversee daily operations of the restaurant and bar, including managing staff, maintaining inventory, and ensuring excellent customer service.
- Menu Oversight: Maintain updated food and bar menus and ensure all items are properly configured in the Toast POS system. Address and resolve any POS issues related to buttons, specials, or checkouts.
- Financial Management: Handle cash transactions accurately, oversee daily checkouts, manage tip splits, and maintain detailed financial records. Perform daily cash tracking and prepare weekly deposits.
Bar and Inventory Management:
- Ordering and Inventory: Conduct weekly ordering for spirits, mixers, and bar supplies. Perform weekly and end-of-month (EOM) inventory checks to ensure the bar is well-stocked, organized, and clean.
- Cocktail Program: Develop and execute a monthly “Cocktail of the Month.” Regularly update the bar manual and cocktail book, and ensure staff are familiar with and can access these resources.
Front of House (FOH) Staffing:
- Staff Scheduling: Manage FOH staff schedules, including handling shift coverage, call-ins, and shift cuts. Conduct end-of-night checkouts and walkthroughs, especially on weekends.
- Training and Development: Implement comprehensive training programs for new employees, focusing on beer and cocktail knowledge. Provide ongoing education and training to all staff to enhance their bar and beer expertise.
Guest Experience and Marketing:
- Customer Interaction: Ensure an exceptional dining experience for all guests and promptly address any grievances or complaints.
- Marketing and Events: Assist with marketing efforts and manage inquiries about events. Handle initial steps for event inquiries, provide potential clients with necessary information, and guide them through the event planning process.
Administrative and HR Duties:
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain updated employee files, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and manage equipment maintenance schedules.
- Team Coordination: Act as a liaison between FOH and back of house (BOH) teams, addressing and documenting any employee issues. Lead weekly manager meetings and conduct peer reviews.
Kitchen and Catering Oversight:
- Food Management: Supervise daily prep lists, manage weekly food orders, and ensure efficient food costing and inventory processes. Regularly update the prep and specials manuals.
- Catering and Special Events: Oversee all aspects of catering operations, from menu planning to event execution. Ensure proper portioning, inventory management, and staffing for each event.
Additional Duties:
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and company standards.
- Employee Management: Conduct interviews, hire, train, and schedule employees. Implement strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the assistant manager on shift management and task delegation to ensure smooth operations.

- Experience: Proven experience in restaurant management or a similar role in the food industry.
- Leadership: Strong leadership abilities with excellent team management skills.
- Inventory Management: Proficient in inventory management and ordering procedures.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
