ELEMENTARY TEACHER. .65 FTE-1.0 FTE
SCHOOL MISSION
St. Paul’s is a Christ-Centered Lutheran School dedicated to fanning the flame of Christ in the hearts of every child and family by providing a foundation of faith, character, and academic excellence for a lifetime of service.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The teacher’s primary function is to provide a well-rounded elementary education for the students of St. Paul’s Lutheran School. This shall include all educational areas as determined by the curriculum and guidelines established by the School Board through the school administrator, with a primary focus on the spiritual, academic, social, physical, and emotional development of each child.
LINE OF ACCOUNTABILITY
The teacher is accountable to the Congregation of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the School Board through the School Administrator. The elementary teacher may be evaluated annually by the School Administrator and the results of the evaluation shared with the staff member and the School Board.
QUALIFICATIONS
The teacher shall:
- Associate closely with God through prayer, study of the Bible, and regular church attendance
- Give evidence of a life-style that reflects a committed relationship with our Triune God, through faith in Jesus Christ as empowered and inspired by the Holy Spirit
- Understand and support the major tenants of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod doctrines and creeds.
- Possess a valid Washington state teaching credential or commit to acquiring one before the end of the third school year of service.
- Be able to work with parents, children, and others in a caring, professional manner.
- Be knowledgeable of and sensitive to the individual and group dynamics and needs of elementary age children.
- Understand, plan, and implement developmentally appropriate classroom practices
- Be physically and emotionally healthy, poised, punctual, and enthusiastic
- Be willing and able to perform duties as assigned by school administration
- Manage student behaviors per the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program established at St. Paul’s. If not already, the teacher must become fluent in the use of positive behavior interventions and supports as provided in St. Paul’s teacher orientation, training, and materials provided during the first year of service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Teacher shall:
1. Execute daily duties as assigned. These activities shall include all lesson preparations and execution, all room preparations, attendance at daily devotions, special planning meetings, monthly staff meetings, and preparation of regular reports to parents. Plan, participate in and conduct elementary or multi-class musical performances and perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
2. Be a team worker with all staff members. Relationships will be characterized by encouragement, support, and cooperation in the common cause and ministry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School.
3. Maintain a warm and trusting relationship with children, student families, and other Staff of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School.
