What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ground position at St. Paul’s School?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : include the following. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of employee’s supervisor.
Maintain grounds in summer : mow lawns; seed, fertilize and run irrigation, plant flowers and shrubs; prune trees and shrubs;
remove weeds and brush using power equipment.
Maintain grounds in winter : remove snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks, using shovels, snow blowers and plows;
- Perform other seasonal grounds work : rake leaves, sweep sand, repair walkways, clean drains.
- Pick up trash around buildings and dorms.
- Move furniture; relocate offices, set up furniture in dorms.
- Assist with basic construction tasks related to grounds maintenance (ditch digging, road repair, fence and sign repair / installation).
- Carry out other special work orders (deliveries, pick-ups, facility set-ups / tear-downs for special events).
- Operate a wide variety of power tools and grounds maintenance equipment to include : large equipment loaders, backhoes, skid-steer, and tractors.
- Follow established health and safety procedures.
- Keep storage areas clean and organized.
- Perform specialized grounds maintenance tasks, such as maintaining athletics fields, planning and overseeing maintenance of perennial flower beds, and the like.
- Perform specialized equipment maintenance and repair tasks.
- Train and direct the activities of seasonal help.
Physical Demands :
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend;
stoop or kneel; crouch and crawl; and climb or balance.

Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. May be required to stand on and in wet areas to perform required work.
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts, in very high places off of ladders, scaffolding, or lifts and frequently exposed to toxic and / or caustic chemicals such as pesticides.

Education and / or Experience : High school diploma or GED. One year of experience in directly related work, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
Language Skills : Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills : Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Skills : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Possession of a current, valid NH driver’s license required.
Other Skills and Abilities : Ability and desire to seek training to enhance or learn new skills. Ability to effectively interface with all levels of staff.
Other : This is a full-time, full-year staff position. Employee must be willing to work overtime as required. Must be available for emergency call-in, early morning and / or late night hours when snow or ice is forecast.
