Head of Procurement
Stadler Rail Group is a system supplier for customer-specific rail vehicles with manufacturing and service locations in Switzerland and around the world. We are a leading manufacturer of regional and suburban trains, trams, and rack-and-pinion rail vehicles and systems. Stadler has multiple contracts to deliver passenger rail vehicles to customers in the United States and Canada. To help fulfill this demand, we are looking to fill the following position in our Salt Lake City facility.

The Head of Procurement is a key leadership role, with responsibility for effective and efficient collaboration with Procurement staff, internal business partners, key stakeholders, and suppliers to define, implement, and manage sourcing, contracting, procurement and supplier relationship management requirements (e.g., scope, statement of work, goals, milestones, technical and operational specifications, deliverables, etc.) in support of operational improvements and cost savings to the organization.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Understand the rail transit industry and Stadler’s corporate vision and goals
- Lead, develop, and motivate work groups inside and outside the department to execute the procurement policies and programs
- Responsible for project material budgets, cost center budgets and headcount
- Provide strategic procurement guidance and develop procedures to produce efficiencies and reduce expenses through strategic procurement sourcing
- Develop and manage short- and long-term commodity strategies in support of the corporate business plans
- Align procurement strategy and tactics in-line with cost-reduction targets and product / services quality needs
- Oversee the negotiation and on-going implementation of global and national contracts.
- Collaborate on strategic projects to attain financial goals through creative and forward-thinking management.
- Build and manage a procurement team to execute the above initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or similar field
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in Industrial or Manufacturing purchasing
- Experience in Supply Chain roles with emphasis on Procurement / Sourcing
- Exceptional Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent ERP systems knowledge (preferable Infor COM)
- Rail/Transit experience preferred
- Analytical thinking and strategic reasoning skills
- Ability to plan and organize multiple activities concurrently
- Managing people in a matrixed work environment
- Excellent communication skills, German language a plus
