A. Education Level: M.A. Degree in Counseling.
B. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a School Counselor.
C. Other Requirements: Must have a valid North Dakota Educator’s
Professional License with specific Endorsement for School Counselor.
Demonstrated competency in conducting individual and group counseling, program development, guidance program administration, academic assessment, psychological assessment, and conduct of guidance classes.
Knowledge of local and other supportive resources for students, research, and other applicable skills and abilities required.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and written.
Ability to serve in a consultative capacity with parents, students and other staff members in regards to a student’s education.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Ability to meet professional teacher requirements of the school and state.
Exhibits attributes of reliable attendance, promptness, and dependability.
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Must pass a background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Public Law 101-630.
Must submit to a pre-employment Drug Test.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
This position is responsible for guidance services to K-6 students which are designed to increase their understanding and knowledge of individual skills, abilities, problem-solving, goal-setting, decision-making, relationships, inter and intrapersonal communications, conflict resolution, substance abuse, self-esteem, personal growth and development, and cultural identity.
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for grade K-6 students of the Standing Rock Community School which meets all accrediting agency requirements, and which is designed to provide comprehensive services to meet student holistic development needs, interests, and goals.
2. Coordinate the identification and administration of required assessment for grade K-6 students to included self-concept assessment, career inventory and assessment, psychological, and other identified “authentic” assessment processes (academic; other) developed by the school.
3. Provide for the conduct of individual and group counseling sessions for grade K-6 students to assist them in their problem-solving and decision-making efforts.
4. Coordinate the conduct training sessions for staff, parents, and other community members in areas of personal growth and development, to include parenting, motivation, self-esteem, communications skills, problem-solving, decision-making, cultural identity, and other areas of focus that are designed to enhance the support system and advocacy for grade K-6 students of the SRCS.
5. Provide advisement and policy and procedure recommendations through the Superintendent on matter pertinent to the provision of a quality guidance and counseling program for grade K-6 students of the SRCS.
6. Pursue professional development opportunities. Including attending conferences and professional meetings to remain current with industry trends.
7. Participate in community, departmental and staff meetings to benefits the guidance program.
8. Maintain data and information regarding students in a confidential manner in accordance with Privacy Act, Confidential Act, the Counseling Profession ethical requirements, and other applicable standards and ethical requirements.
9. Monitor and provide assistance to the Registrar regarding grade K-6 student confidential file maintenance, assess, and other requirements.
10. Provide advocacy to grade K-6 students in their efforts to access and require supplementary services to meet their needs from school, local, and other resources (medical; dental; psychological; economic; other) available to students.
11. Ensure coordination and development of school guidance and counseling services with those provided by other school counselors.
12. Conduct orientation with staff, students, and parents on a regular basis regarding services, outcomes, and resources of the Counseling Program for grade K-6 students, and other supplementary services in the area and schools that are available to assist student development.
13. Ensure that individual endeavors are complimentary to the standards of the Counseling profession and to the nature of respected individuals, including demonstration of positive behavior in the community as well as in the school environment.
14. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the SRCGS Policies and Procedures.
15. Performs additional duties deemed necessary as assigned by the Supervisor.
