School/Unit Description:

The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. H&S is home to fundamental and applied research, where free, open, and critical inquiry is pursued across disciplines. As the university’s largest school, H&S serves as the foundation of a Stanford undergraduate education no matter which discipline students pursue as a major. Graduate students work alongside world-renowned faculty to pursue and shape foundational research that leads to breakthroughs and discoveries that shed new light on the past, influence the present, and shape the future. Together, faculty and students in H&S engage in inspirational teaching, learning, and research every day.

The Department of Psychology seeks a full time Team Manager (TM)/ Social Science Research Professional. The TM will assist with the recruitment infrastructure of the research conducted in the lab, as well as day-to-day administrative tasks to support the maintenance of the lab. Recruitment duties will focus on building and maintaining relationships with families for the purpose of long-term participation. Administrative duties will consist of managing calendars, tracking finances, placing purchase orders, and maintaining the lab’s ethics approval. Finally, the TM will be involved in the collection of scientific data. This position is renewable with the potential for long-term employment.


Other optional opportunities: The TM may have opportunities to attend relevant workshops/conferences for additional training.


The successful applicant must be able to maintain warm relationships with families and be an expert at interacting with babies. Additionally, this person must show facility in recruiting and interacting with minoritized communities. Pre-existing relationships with potential recruitment venues (e.g., daycares, doctors' offices) will be highly valued. The TM should have working knowledge of MS Office and good organizational and communication skills. Frequent email and phone communication will be necessary and keeping organized (scheduling and record-keeping) is an essential part of the job. Applicants must have strong initiative and disposition towards problem solving. Previous research experience is a plus but not essential. Experience administrating longitudinal research would be a strength, as would substantially experience with young children.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Plan and perform research tasks of limited complexity requiring initiative and judgment in applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance; general instruction is provided by the supervisor.
  • Conduct literature searches, and write literature summaries, requiring preliminary judgments after conceptual approach is outlined by the supervisor. Build and organize data as requested by principal investigator or faculty; use common statistical programs, requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data.
  • Adapt new, nonstandard methods outlined by supervisor (principal investigator or faculty).
  • Assist in designing and evaluating phases of research projects, seeking guidance where necessary, and auditing the accuracy and validity of data entered in databases.
  • Present research finding to internal audiences, including peers, co-workers, and managers.
  • Help orient and train new staff or students as needed.
  • Assist with development and design of outreach materials and tools for recruitment, educational, or awareness programs with guidance from supervisor.
  • Process and monitor routine financial transactions, which may include researching and resolving discrepancies.
  • May serve as the point of contact for general maintenance, health and safety, and other facility concerns within the unit(s); report any incidents or potential safety problems to appropriate representatives. Track completion of required training.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:


Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
