Your Opportunity
Our team provides cultural resource services for solar fields, residential developments, wetland restorations, streetcar lines, major urban revitalization projects, and excavation and investigations of numerous cemeteries. We currently are seeking hourly part-time to full-time (overtime eligible) field archaeologists based in our local Tampa & Riverview offices to work on a project-to-project basis on a mix of local and out of town field projects. We are open to considering experienced candidates who do not reside in the greater Tampa area but are able to travel and/or provide support remotely.
We offer the opportunity to work and learn in a positive environment with an innovative and experienced team. Preferred candidates will have completed at least a BA in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field, be willing to travel for multi-week rotations in the field and have prior experience with Phase I and Phase II survey. Stantec has offices across the US and Canada; this position can lead to work with colleagues in other cities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Field duties are primarily Phase I and Phase II survey, and less frequently Phase III data recovery, or data collection for historic architectural survey
- Laboratory duties may include artifact processing, classification, and curation, artifact photography, database management, mapping, and report layout
- Extensive travel may be required for this position often with approximately one-week notice (travel, per diem, and single occupancy hotel provided)
- Ability to travel to and from jobs and Riverview, FL office location, when needed
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to identify in the field pre-historic and historic artifacts from Southeastern U.S. region
- Must be physically fit and able to navigate rugged conditions on foot, often in humid conditions, and complete physically demanding tasks
- Ability to navigate (i.e. orienteering) in remote outdoor conditions with field maps
- Comfortable working on a team with at least one other colleague
- Ability to work on an iPad to collect data and keep track of artifacts and data on a daily basis
- Valid driver's license
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's of Arts preferably in anthropology, archaeology, history or related field
- Demonstrated experience in a field setting as an archaeologist, surveyor, environmental technician, or other professional role
- Degree or advanced knowledge in Africana Studies/African Diaspora Archaeology/Black History, Indigenous Studies, or a related field
- Possess a technical specialty within archaeology/anthropology
Compensation
- Compensation is based on experience and final amounts are determined at the offer phase, however, the anticipated range for this position is $19.00-23.00 per hour
