Your Opportunity
The role of the Health and Safety Specialist is to support the safety efforts of the construction activities, ground disturbance activities, and other work being conducted at the facility.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Travels to assigned facilities to observe and support safety efforts of construction, ground disturbance personnel and other persons in the vicinity of the work.
- Promote afternoon Safety Meetings with contractors to identify high-risk activities scheduled for that day to understand work scope, construction worker qualifications, proposed construction methods and means, risk mitigation approaches, and equipment needs.
- Conduct routine area checks to facilitate adherence to safe work requirements and practices. Focus will be placed on these key areas:
Fall Protection to include Aerial Lift/Telehandler//Ladder/Scaffold Safety
Confined Space Entry
Control of Hazardous Areas
Electrical Safety
Energy Control Procedures (Lock/Tag/Try)
Hazard Communication
Personal Protective Equipment use and care
Manned lifting equipment
- Communicate and coordinate with onsite personnel regarding practices and workers that require additional training to understand safe work in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Conduct follow-on monitoring and assessment of identified non-compliances to document corrective measures have been successfully implemented.
- Coordinate project-specific facility training.
- Respond to incident scenes and support the investigation process.
- Immediately report incidents to client.
- Identify and attempt to halt all imminently dangerous activities and provide immediate notification to client.
- Review construction work Hot Work permits developed by contractors.
- Review construction energy-control procedures developed by contractors.
- Document and log routine compliance review activities.
- Draft a daily report that includes safety observations, numbers of employee onsite, and work fronts for the next day
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of health and safety.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to travel to assigned facilities as needed to monitor safety efforts of construction and/or ground disturbance activities, and other field staff.
- Demonstrated knowledge in all Federal and State regulations applicable to construction safety.
- "Competent Person" training in construction safety disciplines, preferred.
- Current certification for CPR/First Aid/AED, preferred.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing safety programs on large construction projects, comparable to the contract in scope and complexity.
- Successful completion of OSHA 510 & 500 Safety & Health Course or certification of professional safety certification or a safety and health degree, preferred.
