What are the responsibilities and job description for the STARBASE Hill Academy Instructor position at STARBASE Hill (A Department of Defense Youth Program)?
STARBASE Hill, as an extension of the Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE Program, is currently searching for candidates to bring the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Science (STEM) to 5th-9th grade students. STARBASE Hill instructors facilitate discovery-based lesson plans to students, thus maximizing a “hands-on, minds-on” experience for each child. This opportunity aims to enhance an interest in STEM careers, for those who may not understand its endless possibilities, and increase the knowledge of an actual, active Air Force military base. The responsibilities of the position will support classification as a GS-9 to GS-11 (or equivalent).
Requirements:
-Should possess at least one of the following:
-1)Bachelor's degree in education or STEM field; 2) Other bachelor's degree with 2 years’ work experience in a STEM field; 3) Equivalent experience teaching STEM subjects
-Recommend having experience in teaching elementary or secondary level science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (current teaching certificate not required)
-Needs to possess a knowledge of computers
-Needs to recognize and implement effective teaching practices and classroom management skills
-Must have the ability and willingness for quality communication, and effective relationships with STARBASE Hill staff, military and civilian government personnel, district school teachers, students, parents, and volunteers
-Needs to be highly enthusiastic while exhibiting a passion for STEM subjects and ensuring student engagement
-Needs the ability to travel for training and/or conferences
Responsibilities:
Classroom Duties:
-Prepare materials, lesson scripts, classrooms, and activities for instruction utilizing computer and/or SMART technology for lessons where appropriate
-Provide instruction in all areas of DoD STARBASE curriculum for students and any participating adults (normally a district teacher or aide)
-Work as a team with other teachers to prepare lessons, daily class schedules, and presentation in the classrooms
-Identify participating individual students’ needs and attempt to provide appropriate intervention and accommodation to help ensure success during their STARBASE Hill participation
-Assist in developing new curriculum lessons, which are correlated with state and national objectives, to submit to DoD STARBASE
-Assist district teachers and students who participate in the STARBASE Hill Advanced program
-Participate in graduation ceremonies
Clerical Duties:
-Assist district teacher in completing STARBASE or STARBASE Advanced survey
-Conduct evaluations, collect data, and prepare statistical summaries of program data
Other Duties:
-Cleaning and organization of classrooms, kitchen, teachers' offices, lobby, and storage areas as limited janitorial services are provided
Job Type:
-Part-time: 100-150 days/year; 8 hours per day (bulk of working days during the current school year)
Compensation:
-$215.00 to $235.00/day a benefit stipend (Pending education/experience level)
