STARR Restaurants is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineer in the New York or Philadelphia market to join the team! Reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure and Security, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and supporting computer systems on-premises and in the cloud. The Systems Engineer is also expected to stay current on the latest technology, security, and best-practice guidelines to make recommendations for enhancements in the technological environment. Occasional night and weekend work will be required to support and minimize the impact on the day-to-day business operations.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Configure, deploy, manage, and maintain endpoint devices using management tools
- Design, deploy, and manage server infrastructure running on Microsoft Windows and Linux
- Evaluate, implement, and manage a wide scope of cloud applications and security tools
- Manage and troubleshoot email-related issues; Perform system and network troubleshooting
- Provide guidance and assistance to the IT support team on escalated requests and contact vendors for support as necessary
- Align systems/network infrastructure goals to organization needs
- Ability to conduct in-depth research into issues and technologies as required and recommend preferred hardware and/or solutions
- Maintaining multi-site network operations, software applications, operating systems, and regular maintenance
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and use experience and judgment to accomplish goals. Demonstrates proactivity, responsiveness, and follow-through
- Engage with vendors to procure hardware and provision WAN circuits
- Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with business objectives
- Provide mentorship by sharing knowledge and building redundancy within the team
- Work across teams to assist in determining strategic direction to enable business goals
- Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps, ensuring knowledge transfer and maintaining accurate system documentation
- Meets the job attendance guidelines and adheres to regulatory, departmental, and company policies
Qualified candidates will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is preferred
- 3-5 years of related experience in a mixed Microsoft / Macintosh / Linux environment, preferably in the hospitality industry.
- ITSM Knowledge: Solid understanding of ITSM processes, including Change Management, Problem Management, and Incident Management
- Demonstrated understanding of systems and network protocols (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, SMTP, etc.)
- Proven experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell)
- Experience with email security
- Familiarity with Identity and Access Management, Azure EntraID
- Advanced knowledge of macOS, Windows 11, and other operating systems
- Ability to provide technical support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired
- A high degree of initiative with minimum supervision using the latest technologies to develop and implement highly available solutions that meet business needs
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed, sometimes for durations exceeding three days. In PA, NY, DC, TN, FL
