Starr is looking to hire an Underwriter within our Marine team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new opportunities for Starr Marine through existing broker relationships and cross sell efforts within sister lines of Property, Energy, Aviation, Construction as well as regional market management
- Manage portfolio retention consisting of medium to large cargo, hull and liability accounts
- Review profitability of each account 90 days prior to renewal and discuss corrective action plans in advance with broker partners and Insureds while adding value through Starr’s Loss Control and Claim services
- Execute product guidelines, adhere to underwriting authority and referral process, follow file documentation procedures and identify value-add opportunities through cross sell efforts, loss control and claim services
- Develop and pursue target accounts
- Maintain contact with brokers and customers in order to foster ongoing business relationships
- Market and engage both new and existing broker relationships on global capabilities and customer service concept through communication and action
- Work to further establish and develop relationships through agency visits, industry networking events and loss control risk mitigation meetings with policy holders
Skills/Experience Required:
- 3-7 years of ocean marine underwriting experience, demonstrated productivity and profitability with a progressive and disciplined underwriting acumen
- Experience handling Multinational clients with admitted insurance requirements is a plus
- Strong knowledge and technical expertise of the Marine industry, exposures, risks and market capabilities
- Strong portfolio management, production, organization and time management skills with an understanding of the company’s business objectives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Efficient computer and software skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience preferable
