What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Manager position at Starry?
Who we are looking for:
We’re looking for an autonomous and strategic Payroll Manager who can work with our Finance and People Teams to build a best-in-class payroll experience for employees and business stakeholders. We need someone who has a proven ability to work cross functionally to improve processes and operationalize new payroll programs that deliver and provide transparency to all stakeholders. Someone who can wear many hats but who is an expert and can provide guidance in multi-state, exempt vs. hourly, and ADP Workforce Now payroll processing.
What you’ll do:
- Use knowledge of finance in combination with Human Resources procedures to oversee bi-weekly payroll for 800 plus employees.
- Manage our relationships with ADP as well as Carta, our Stock Plan administration tool
- Ensure New Hires are processed in ADP Workforce Now and serve as a back-up to onboarding and I-9 processes.
- Responsible for the administration of terminations in ADP, our benefits portal and other HRIS systems.
- Process bi-weekly payroll, full pay batches as well as intermittent one-offs in an electronic timesheet system.
- Build an operational process that will allow us to manager the company’s bonus plan in an error free and transparent manner to our employees
- Payroll process includes: new employees, terminated employees, wage verification, withholding allowances, pay rate changes, status changes, bonus & commission, benefit deductions, payroll garnishments and direct deposit, etc.
- Respond to payroll inquiries and requests by employees and other internal and external users of payroll data.
- Perform compliance for unclaimed payroll checks.
- Responsible for setting up new tax codes, deductions, earnings, timekeeping, absence codes and all general payroll set-up in ADP.
- ADP reporting for various HR, finance and management teams.
- Provide explanations of policies and procedures to employees.
- Support daily HR activities and support HR related projects.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of Payroll/HR experience
- Experience processing payroll in multiple states.
- Have knowledge of tax reporting and other payroll logistics of equity plan administration
- 3 years experience with ADP
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Extensive excel knowledge and advanced formula and v look-up skills.
- Experience with Google suite of products.
- Exposure to labor law.
