Head of Admissions

StartX’s strength comes from its community, and a great community starts with excellent admissions.

As Head of Admissions, you will play a critical role in shaping our community by leading our admissions processes. You will ensure StartX sets high quality admissions structures and makes strategically-aligned decisions across admissions for Founders, Mentors, and Investors.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Set strategic priorities for the Admissions team based on StartX-wide goals, judge and participant feedback trends, and long-term decision quality and outcomes
• Collaborate with the Board on key Admissions decisions, improvements and updates
• Manage our Admissions Logistics team and support them in sourcing high quality judge and mentor candidates
• Ensure Admissions logistics run smoothly and provide a positive experience for judges, participants, applicants, mentors and staff across all admissions processes

Founder Admissions

• Track medium- and long-term outcomes for admitted teams, leveraging the data to suggest changes to the Founder Admissions processes
• Deeply understand and advocate for adherence to the Founder Admissions Rubric and processes; ensure data-driven decisions
• Review qualifications for potential judges and provide high quality training such that new judges are equipped to make strong, rubric-based decisions
• Participate in Founder Admissions as an interview and debrief facilitator

Investor Demo Day (IDD)

• Track outcomes for each IDD cycle by team and investor, leveraging the data to make future improvements
• Facilitate the review of IDD pitches, feedback documentation, and final Demo Day admissions

Mentor Admissions

• Conduct user interviews with mentors and mentees to understand and plan for how we can continue to improve the mentorship structures at StartX
• Support our Admissions Logistics teammate and Programs team in sourcing high quality mentor candidates
• Review and train potential mentors, targeting high needs areas as defined by our founder-facing Programs team

A Day in the Life

• Check in with our Admissions Logistics team to confirm Founder applications are updated and ready to open on time

• Review mentor and judge applications against our key criteria

• Finalize presentation to the Board on proposed Founder Admissions updates stemming from medium-term outcomes of previously accepted teams

• Lead a training for Investor Demo Day judges on what to expect during video review and how to document meaningful feedback
