The Accounting Team has an opening for an Insurance Accounting Specialist to join our dynamic Accounting Team. The Insurance Accounting Specialist will be working with the team in carrying out tasks to complete the financial close process ensuring that the financial statements are prepared in conformity with accounting practices prescribed or permitted by the California Department of Insurance (CDI) with appropriate internal controls.

Currently, the position has an option to work from home and is subject to changes based on State Fund guidelines and business needs. Applicants must reside in California to be considered.

In this role, you will:

• Perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing tasks following tight deadlines
• Produce required reports for CDI filing and for upper management
• Prepare financial variance analysis and ad-hoc research to resolve accounting issues
• Document accounting processes, procedures, and guidelines
• Work closely with external/internal auditors and Finance team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of financial reports

Minimum Qualifications:

• Four years of increasingly responsible professional accounting or auditing experience AND
• Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting OR completion of the equivalent of 45 semester units given by a collegiate-grade residence or correspondence institution, of which 24 units must include courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate/advanced accounting, fund/governmental accounting, cost accounting, auditing, business law, computer applications/management information systems

Desired Qualifications:

• CPA a plus
• Knowledge of insurance accounting and Statutory Accounting Principles preferred
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with Oracle ERP a plus

SALARY: $6,061 - $7,587 per month depending on experience
