The Anchorage Appellate Court is seeking applicants to promote the mission of the Alaska Court System and provide access to justice for members of the community.
 

The Alaska Court System (ACS)  is seeking a highly motivated individual to represent the our mission as a Court Case Manager II (SR 12) in support of the Appellate Court in Anchorage. This position will perform case management duties and provide excellent customer service and teamwork skills while producing a professional work product.


Regular job duties will include:
  • Open new appeals, set up files, determine what may need to be done before an opening notice is issued and take appropriate steps; prepare and distribute opening notices; notify trial court case manager and judges of pending appeal;
  • Evaluate motions to determine if they are routine, individual justice/judge, or full court and how and to whom they should be routed; enter all motions and opposition data in computer;
  • Analyze and assign individual justice/judge and full-court motions; compose assignment memos, describe relief requested in the motion, whether the motion is opposed, and other pertinent facts;
  • Receive notices of completion of trial court record preparation and receipt of transcripts; calculate brief due dates; prepare and distribute notices to parties;
  • Receive and route petitions and responses; compose, sign, and distribute orders on petitions for review, petitions for hearing, original applications, and Bar matters;
  • File paperwork in case files, records, confidential files, and closed files;
  • Determine availability of case information for public inspection and maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate;
  • Retrieve files, records and pertinent documents for the court; prepare courtroom, accommodate the parties and media, enter orders directed by the court; act as in-court clerk by gaveling in the court, operating recorder and timer, keeping track of attorney's time and taking log notes;
  • Review and prepare opinions for distribution in advance of issuance; ensure computer data entry is timed to coincide with publication of opinions on public website;
  • Act as back-up for front counter one day a week or more often depending on staffing; reconcile cash drawer; assist customers and answer main office phone; open and sort incoming mail;
  • Assist in training new case managers; other duties as assigned.

This position is assigned to the court's classified service; incumbents will attain "regular" status after completion of the initial probation period.

Full-time court employees currently scheduled to work 36 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During the pandemic, work schedules may be subject to change based upon the business needs of the court.

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager I with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).
 
OR
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).
 
OR
 
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).

TYPING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your typing speed of 40 wpm or higher (net).  Typing tests are given at any Alaska Job Center location.  A list of locations is available at: http://www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices.  Appointments are not necessary.  Online typing tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document.

WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. EDUCATION

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants.
