The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Statewide Division of Design & Engineering Services is recruiting for a Drafting Technician I/II/III to join our team to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Statewide Design and Engineering Services Bridge Section provides bridge safety and exceptional bridge engineering services for all of Alaska. We deliver design services for new and rehabilitation bridge construction projects, as well as a broad range of services associated with the existing inventory of the State's 1,000 public highway bridges. We are located in the DOT&PF Headquarters Building on Channel Drive in Juneau. While the majority of work will be in the office, you may be given the opportunity to travel throughout the state for 1-2 weeks in the summer to support the Department’s bridge inspection program.

In this position, you will work with design engineers to produce complex construction drawings for new and rehabilitated bridge projects using AutoCAD drafting software. This includes using AutoCAD to dimension, scale font, x-reference, and utilize paper/model spaces and other features for the efficient production of documents. Other responsibilities may include producing graphic artwork, charts, graphs, maps and plans for reports and other documents.
We are looking for someone with the following Competencies:- Significant training or experience with AutoCAD computer aided drafting software.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and proficiency in file transfer and management of the Microsoft Windows Operating System.
- Good written and oral communication skills to communicate clearly with engineers and designers for the development of accurate and efficiently produced drawings.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and markups.
- Working knowledge of engineering drafting standards, methods, and procedures.

Drafting Technician ICompletion of two courses in computer assisted drafting, design, or mechanical drawing at the high school level, OR 6 semester hours of computer assisted drafting, design, or mechanical drawing course work at the technical/vocational school or college level.Experience performing computer assisted drafting, design, or mechanical drawing may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Drafting Technician IICompletion of two courses in computer assisted drafting, design, or mechanical drawing at the high school level, OR 6 semester hours or 8 quarter hours of computer assisted drafting, design or mechanical drawing course work at the technical/vocational school or college level;ANDOne year of automated drafting experience as a Drafting Technician I with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Additional experience performing computer assisted drafting, design, or mechanical drawing will substitute for the specified course work on a year-for-year basis.Additional course work as noted above will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. SALARY INFORMATION- Drafting Technician I ….. $ 18.95/Hour
- Drafting Technician II …. $ 22.74/Hour
- Drafting Technician III … $ 25.95/Hour
