The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development's Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing is recruiting for a Licensing Examiner 2.

The duty station is located in Juneau. Teleworking opportunities are potentially available for these positions following an initial training period.
What you will be doing:
The Licensing Examiner 2 position performs a wide variety of administrative assignments necessary to ensure qualified individuals are issued professional licenses for one or more of the division's professional licensing programs, including at least one of the division's 21 programs regulated by a professional licensing board. This position's duties include managing applicant files in a variety of formats, utilizing the in-house professional licensing database effectively, communicating with licensees verbally and in writing, ensuring supplemental documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with licensing standards, and assisting the board's lead staff member in preparation for certain board-related tasks as needed. Licensing examiners are often the primary point of contact for the public and serve as a liaison between the division and applicants.

The working conditions you can expect:
The official duty station is located in our main office in on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in Juneau. Our office has updated furnishings and is centrally located in downtown Juneau.

The work environment is friendly, professional, and cooperative, with regular interaction with colleagues, other state agencies, and the general public. Our daily working environment is challenging and very busy with a high volume of customer contact through many methods including communication through the professional licensing database, email, phone, videoconference, and sometimes in-person. Our staff is highly focused with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

Special Notice:
This position may or may not be telework eligible (after an initial training period for a time period of 6-8 months). Even if telework is approved after the initial training period, the position can be called back into the office full time at the division's or supervisor's discretion.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Examining and processing license applications; interpreting and applying established criteria, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; researching State and federal laws and regulations; preparing written communication detailing examinations made, discrepancies noted, and corrections needed; and/or responding to difficult customers with tact and diplomacy.

Additional Required Information

Documents Needed at the Time of Interview:
  • Three (3) professional references who have had supervisory responsibility over you along with daytime contact numbers; and
  • Copies of your three (3) most recent performance evaluations.

  • Explain how you meet the minimum qualifications for this position; and
  • Specifically address how your education and work experience meet the desired core competencies as listed above.

Your professional cover letter, as well as your responses to the supplemental questions, will also be used as writing samples.

Education:
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts must be attached at the time the application is submitted.
