This is a paid temporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire and applications will be considered as they are received.  

In addition to a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.

About the position

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a temporary position at our Fleet Services Motor Pool to prepare Motor Pool rental fleet for use. Position will inspect vehicles returned from rental cleanliness, damage or other maintenance issues, fuel levels, full electrical charge for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), other fluid levels such as oil, coolant and washer fluid.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drive rental vehicles to car wash for cleaning;

  • Plug in BEVs and PHEVs to charging stations;
  • Deliver and return rental vehicles to and from Motor Pool for maintenance services. Clear snow from rental vehicles as needed;
  • Deliver and pick up vehicles with outside vendors for things such as accident estimates, lighting installs, dealer recalls, and CDOT sign shop for striping and Logo installs;
  • Pick up new vehicles and deliver decommissioned vehicles to State Fleet Management;
  • Assist shop personnel with the cleaning of the shop by emptying the trash, sweeping and mopping floors, and using a floor scrubber for the shop floor;
  • Utilize computer for the Kiosk for vehicle rentals which will include assisting Service Writer with inputting and maintaining data, updating vehicle information and vehicle keys in the Rental Kiosk; and returning keys from the drop box to the Rental Kiosk system.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Work Environment: 

  • Primarily 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM work hours, Monday-Friday

  • Operate CDOT vehicles

  • May be required to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for long periods of time - hot and cold


Minimum Qualifications 

  • No previous education or experience is required.

  • Previous vehicle cleaning experience, as well as a willingness to learn is highly desirable.

Conditions of Employment

  • A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position. 

  • Required to bend, kneel, climb in/out of vehicles when cleaning and maintaining rental fleet

  • Must be able to use a computer

  • Effective September 20, 2021, employees will be required to attest to and verify whether or not they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Employees who have not been fully vaccinated may be required to submit to serial testing in the future. Upon hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination. Vaccinated employees must provide proof of vaccination. Note: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two (2) weeks after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, as defined by the most recent State of Colorado’s Public Health Order and current guidance issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. The exceptional applicant will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:

  • Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;

  • Highest work/personal ethics and integrity;

  • Experience with the motor pool/fleet services;

  • Experience with cleaning and maintaining vehicles;

  • Excellent customer service and oral communication skills;

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Passion for safety;

  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations;

  • Experience using computer for everyday work tasks, and email; comfortable with Gmail, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
