The mission of the Office of K-12 School Choice is to support quality public and private educational choice programs by providing information and assistance to promote successful outcomes for students, families, institutions, and communities.
Job Description/Duties and Responsibilities
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position for a Payment Specialist-Scholarship Programs that is responsible for executing the following functions:
- Responsible for oversight of scholarship payment processes, including disbursements and payment returns.
- Assist in the identification and recovery of funds provided to scholarship funding organizations (SFOs) for students no longer eligible to participate in scholarship programs.
- Responsible for receiving and maintaining student data, performing eligibility screening, and calculating scholarship amounts accurately.
- Provide technical assistance to SFOs when warranted.
- Coordinate with the Comptroller’s Office, Office of Funding and Financial Reporting, and Inspector General’s Office as needed.
- Coordinate with EIS to provide technical assistance to district personnel.
- Prepare or assist office staff in preparing technical reports, statistical briefs, and other publications relating to independent education and parental choice.
- Support Communications and other office staff in relation to requests for information from families and other stakeholders.
- Assist in testing school choice application functionality, carrying out testing scenarios and confirming that functionality meets requirements.
- This position manages confidential material, including student academic records, Social Security numbers, personal history of students, parent information, addresses and income levels, in addition to other pertinent data related to operating the various school choice programs as applicable in the State of Florida.
- Assist in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of relevant experience
- Intermediate-level proficiency in Excel
- Ability to communicate business information effectively and in writing to users and information technology personnel
- Ability to analyze and interpret computer related data
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge of laws, rules, policies and procedures relating to K-12 educational programs.
Educational Substitutions
An associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of experience.

LEAVE INFORMATION:
- Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month.
- Sick Leave - Career Service employees earn 8.667 hours of sick leave credits per month..

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
