Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
This incumbent of this position operates a school bus and transports students on scheduled routes in a safe and secure manner.
- Demonstrate, model and reinforce the agency's fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork.
- Demonstrate these values in interactions with co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and other departments; in personal contributions to work assignment and projects; and when representing the Agency or the State.
- Transport students to and from assigned locations using specified routes. These students may be day or residential students.
- Responsible for transportation support of academic and residential programs; responsible for student weekly homegoings.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling for any trip, vehicle or function necessary in the service of the FSDB.
- Support safety programs and maintain a safe and clean workplace. Apply and follow all Safe School recommendations and policies.
- Performs pre-trip inspections of vehicles for safety.
- Responsible for daily under hood check of fluid levels, fueling and cleanliness of assigned vehicle. Transports vehicles to service departments for repairs.
- Operate a wheelchair lift, if necessary.
- Required to maintain an adequate driving record, for the purpose of driving students to and from school-related activities.
- Support safety programs and maintain a safe and clean workplace.
- Performs other replated duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to be physically capable of operating the vehicle as determined by physical examination Form ESE 479, prescribed by the Commissioner and given by a physician designated by the school board and as determined by a dexterity test administered by the school district.
- Knowledge, skill and ability to meet the standard for the Florida Department of Education 40-hour School Bus Driver Training Certification.
- Knowledge, skill and ability to operate safely all school buses and equipment utilized by FSDB.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills to use e-mail.
- Ability to work a varied shift including weekends and evenings.
- Ability to communicate by use of cellular telephone.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and be able to communicate with students, parents, staff and co-workers.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate assignments.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to maintain a valid Class A or B, CDL Florida License with Passenger Endorsement, Air Brake Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement.
- Ability to Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
- Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR.
- Ability to obtain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI.
Qualifications
Five years of licensed driver experience; a valid Class A or B, CDL Florida License with Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language.
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range: $32,238.96 - $35,238.96 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education. Position also eligible for split shift pay; $45.00 per biweekly period; $1170.00 annually.

Bachelor Degree $3000.00
Master Degree $4500.00
Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20 year max) @ $150.00 per year
Sign Language Proficiency Level: Survival Plus $300.00, Intermediate $450.00, Advanced $600
Hours: Varies, 40 hours per week; Includes evenings and weekends or split shift.

Condition of employment
