Job Description:
Plans and assists with custody and security of prisoners and other incarcerated offenders and maintains order in correctional institutions and other places of detention. May develop and implement security policies and procedures. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff. Assures that law and order are maintained and that the laws, policies, rules and regulations are enforced to prevent crimes and to protect lives and property. Coordinates prisoner activities and prisoner headcount procedures. Establishes a plan for and oversees correctional staff in the control of contraband. Implements applicable institutional emergency plans and procedures. Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges corrections employees. Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for corrections staff. Oversees and directs correctional staff in the transfer of offenders from one institution to another. Supervises assigned correctional staff and ensures conformity with department and institutional security policies and procedures.
