The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is seeking qualified candidates for:
Position Title: Driver Examiner 1
Status: Full-Time

Job Summary:
As a Driver Examiner 1 for DDS, you will help make everyday life possible for thousands of State of Georgia residents. The successful candidate in this role can make a positive impact on the lives of their customers that walk in whether it’s issuing learners permit to teens, welcoming newcomers by converting out-of-state licenses, awarding driver licenses to the first-time drivers by administering examinations or issuing identity cards in compliance with state laws and regulations. The focus of this position is working with and through others within established guidelines. The ability to interact comfortably with a diverse population is important. The successful candidate in this position must be friendly and genuinely interested in helping others. Patience and attention to detail is a major focus of the job, and those details need to be handled quickly, accurately and efficiently.

DDS believes in internal mobility and career advancement opportunities for our employees with satisfactory performance to transition from Driver Examiner 1 (DE 1) to Driver Examiner 2 (DE 2) with an increase of 10%.

After Six months of employment

Duties:
Working with citizens to ensure applications, records and documents are completed accurately.
Accompanying drivers in vehicles to evaluate their ability to adhere to Georgia’s driving laws.
Conducting driving examinations for motorcycle and commercial licenses in accordance with state law and regulations.
Operating visual testing equipment.
Accurately collecting payments via cash or credit cards.
Minimum Qualifications:
A valid Georgia Class C or equivalent License is required and must be maintained while employed in this position.
At least one (1) year of Face-to-face Customer Service experience within the last five years
At least one (1) year of recent Face-to-face experience with cash transactions including handling cash, daily reconciliation, and processing credit card payments within the last five years.
Comfortable working with computer and internet technology.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification above, also possess two or more of the following:
- At least three (3) years of Face-to-face Customer Service experience within the last five years
At least three (3) years of recent Face-to-face experience with cash transactions including handling cash, daily reconciliation, and processing credit card payments within the last five years.
Live within 30 miles of the Customer Service Center for which you are applying
Bilingual skill set preferred.
Working Conditions:
Road tests are conducted throughout the year in a variety of weather conditions including rain, wind, summer heat and cold winter days. Testing begins in the early morning hours and continues through the early evening hours. The test runs for approximately 30 minutes.
Conditions of Employment:
A valid Georgia driver’s license is required and must be maintained while employed in this position. Non-Georgia residents must have a recognized equivalent license. If a valid Georgia driver’s license has not been held for at least three years at the time of application, you will be required to obtain a Motor Vehicle record from the previous state of licensure prior to hire.
Successful completion of the CCKE (Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner) Certification, a national certification is required by all employees who issue driver’s licenses.
Employees who conduct CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) road tests must successfully complete the CDL Examiner Certification and the CCE (Certified Commercial Examiner) Certification.
Employees must maintain these requirements to continue employment with DDS
- DDS employees may be required as a term and condition of employment, to assist in meeting the responsibilities of the Department. In addition, they may be required to perform responsibilities that are not regularly assigned to them in order to continue the operations of the agency which includes assisting other centers. Management will work with employee regarding the locations and mode of transportation.
