The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency operates five integrated and interdependent statutory programs that share a primary goal - to help people with disabilities to become fully productive members of society by achieving independence and meaningful employment.
Job Summary
Under limited supervision, the Government and Public Relations Liaison position develops and advances relationships with both private and public entities to include the GVRA board and council members, public entities, members of the General Assembly, and private GVRA stakeholders. The Liaison acts as the initial point of contact for GVRA stakeholder inquiries from legislative offices. The position also plays a critical role in the appropriations process, analyzing budget documents to assist in development of appropriations presentations. The Liaison plans and executes all board and council meetings with the assistance of administrative staff, developing presentations, talking points and arranging logistics. The candidate must have the ability to interpret relevant regulations and bylaws governing board and council activities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Communicate regularly with General Assembly, Board and Council members verbally and in writing
- Ensure compliance with code sections, regulations and bylaws as they relate to Board and Council operations
- Coordinate all logistics with administrative staff for all Board and Council functions
- Identify critical issues and pose solutions, escalating if necessary
- Monitor and track legislation
- Write legislation briefs and impact statements
- Assist and support Executive Director, Director of Administration and Budget staff during appropriations process
- Respond to inquiries from members of the General Assembly
- Participate regularly on departmental meetings
- Works with internal programs and departments to promote business development opportunities
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of communications experience OR Six years of communications or related experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 3 (GSP042) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Political Science from an accredited college or university AND four (4) or more years of communications or related experience OR
- Masters’ degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Political Science from an accredited college or university AND two (2) or more years of communications or related experience OR
- Seven (7) or more years of communications, public outreach, or legislative experience, preferably with a State or Federal employer

Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Traveling Requirements
25%. This position involves traveling to different locations with or without passengers. This can include changing locations and entering or exiting a vehicle several times a day.
