What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Auditor I position at State of Georgia?
For almost 100 years, the Department of Audits and Accounts has existed to provide decision-makers with credible management information to promote improvements in accountability and stewardship in state and local government. We are one of the largest auditing shops in the Southeast. Clients include public colleges, universities, technical colleges, boards of education and state agencies.
The Department is looking for individuals who want to make a difference for the citizens of Georgia as entry level staff auditors. Successful candidates will be responsible for performing procedures for financial and compliance audits and reviews. These duties include:
- Analyze audit documentation and perform analysis on work obtained.
- Conduct interviews and investigations with client personnel to assist in the evaluation of internal controls.
- Write narratives and conclusions based on the findings derived from the audits.
- Organize audit work according to policies and procedures; assist in preparation of final manuscripts.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting is required. A minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater in accounting classes for recent graduates is strongly desired. All applicants should be able to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills, ability to learn quickly, work independently or in a team environment, and communicate effectively and write proficiently. Up to 25% overnight travel may be associated with the position (post COVID).
We are currently working virtually, with visits to the client site depending on the project. Employees can live throughout Georgia and will be assigned to the team closest to their home. While the agency provides all equipment, employees are required to have high-speed internet in their home.
