Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialists provide professional rehabilitation consultation in the treatment of adult probationers who have documented histories of drug and/or alcohol abuse in an intensive programming environment by administering the GAIN-I screening instrument and facilitating groups.
 
The Idaho Department of Correction has an opening for a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist (DARS) at District 3 Probation and Parole in Caldwell, Idaho. This announcement will be used to fill DARS vacancies within the next six (6) months for the District 3 Probation and Parole Office in Caldwell and surrounding areas. Work may require daily travel within a geographic area of the state and irregular work schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Conduct initial intake interviews with clients and collateral contacts to obtain background data and social information
  • Group Facilitation and coordination of care within IDOC and with external programs
  • Administer GAIN assessments and prepare GRRS reports within assigned deadlines (District offices only)
  • Coordinate statewide service authorizations and assist in policy and program development (central office only)
  • Participate with community groups and other public agencies in developing program needs and problem-solving techniques
  • Good knowledge of Drug & Alcohol treatment course work and experience to include: performing client assessments; performing case management; developing and implementing treatment plans; and monitoring client behaviors.)
  • Computer proficiency for data entry, electronic mail, composing reports and letters, and storing and retrieving documents
  • Willing to work non-traditional hours (evening hours up to 10 p.m. and/or weekends) in a correctional facility and/or Probation and Parole district office providing program facilitation and case management services to offenders
SPECIALTY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Meet IDAPA 16.07.17 guidance before beginning employment.  Qualified Substance Use Disorder Professional (QSUDP)  credentials include: Qualified Substance Abuse Disorder Professional (QSUDP) and eligible to obtain ISAS/CADC certification or higher within 90 days of hire date. Idaho Student of Addictions Studies (ISAS) or Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor. Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Masters Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Physician Assistant, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Psychologist, or Physician.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Some knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Certification in GAIN-I screening instruments
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department's goals and hiring will be subject to:
  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug test
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUIs, adverse driving convictions and adverse employment history may make you ineligible for employment.
  • Having close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody may also make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have an "other than honorable", bad conduct or dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year
