Job Responsibilities
35% Under administrative direction, serves as a Nuclear IT Infrastructure Support Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA):
- Performs complex professional and advisory functions.
- Installs, configures, and administers multiple versions of Microsoft’s Operating Systems in both physical and virtual server environments.
- Utilizes server deployment tools, management tools, and reporting tools across both physical and virtual, as well as stand-alone hardware platforms.
- Provides consultation and technical assistance to agency management regarding agency infrastructure, nuclear power plant infrastructure, auditing compliance, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Installs, configures, and administers both physical and virtual (VMware) Microsoft Windows servers at both the nuclear power plants, and data centers. Administers Linux OS, VMware, and related dHCI hardware systems.
20% Provides the agency with high-level of technical support:
- Possesses the ability to solve complex problems related to client access to the server and network-based applications.
- Demonstrates a high level of knowledge of nuclear power plant networking infrastructure, 900Mhz IP based Ethernet radio communications, TCP/IP protocol, IPAM, DNS, DHCP, network VLANS, SCCM and their implementation within a Microsoft network infrastructure.
15% Performs server patch management, performance, security, licensing, and server integrity reviews utilizing server-based reporting features and vendor provided utilities, communicating results to management:
- Creates and maintains technical documentation and procedures for critical aspects and auditing requirements of the computer and network operations.

10% Ensures the implementation of current anti-virus software protection for all agency servers:
- Works with staff to coordinate and schedule server backups, installations of additional server-based applications, and configuring server roles.
- Works with networking staff to maintain availability and connectivity to agency owned infrastructure at all Illinois nuclear power plants.
5% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:
- Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.
5% Assist staff in defining the optimum software configuration and design of the desktop client:
- Provides work leadership, guidance, training, and direction to associates and desktop support staff.
5% Performs the duties of the assigned team position as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures of the Illinois Plan for Radiological Accidents:
- Respond and participate in emergency deployments, providing IT support in the field for an extended period.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience in a nuclear related Information Technology field or directly related field.
Specialized Skills
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience administering Microsoft Server Operating systems, servers, PCs, and networking hardware in a complex enterprise environment.
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience administering, TCP/IP based 900Mhz Ethernet radio communications, and SHDSL Ethernet extensions.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience with Linux OS, VMware, and related dHCI hardware systems
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Three (3) years of professional experience administering Microsoft Server Operating systems, servers, PCs, and networking hardware in a complex enterprise environment.
- Two (2) years of professional experience administering, TCP/IP based 900Mhz Ethernet radio communications, and SHDSL Ethernet extensions.
- One (1) year of professional experience with Linux OS, VMware, and related dHCI hardware systems.
- Extensive knowledge of disaster recovery procedures, and the ability to create and update those procedures.
- Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, associates, vendors, clients, and others.
- Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining, evaluating, and solving difficult administrative, organizational, technical, or operational problems where solutions may be of a precedent-establishing or research nature.
