The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Accountant III within the business office at the Roederer Correctional Complex performs functional supervision over accounting activities for the institution.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Posting, disbursing, balancing, and fund transfers for inmate accounts - to include disbursing checks, making purchases on behalf of inmates, special orders/vendor orders, birth certificates, etc.
* Ensure state pay and supplemental pay accurately.
* Audit/post state pay.
* Compiles various reports and provide necessary documentation to supervisor for GAX submission.
* Balance inmate canteen reports to KOMS reports.
* Assist with reset of passwords and activate new canteen accounts. Set canteen restrictions appropriately.
* Respond to incoming phone calls and inmate letters.
* Track inventory and requisition materials as needed..
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal clerical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Training in accounting, business administration, business education, office administration, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
