MHSD is one of ten districts across Louisiana, created by the state legislature in 2003 to oversee the delivery of publicly funded, community-based mental health, addictive disorders and developmental disabilities services to our area. MHSD serves adults, children and families of Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. In particular, we serve residents who are uninsured or Medicaid eligible/covered, individuals suffering from mental illness, individuals suffering from addiction, and individuals who have developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.

Hospital Admissions Technician
Under general direction of the Mental Health Center Manager, the incumbent is responsible for accurate and efficient collection and entry of all pertinent data required to register clients in agency system(s), according to agency admissions and billing criteria. The Incumbent must be highly organized, energetic and possess the ability to multitask in a high paced environment. The Incumbent must be sensitive to the impact of nonverbal communication, including tone of voice, demeanor, eye contact, gestures and overall image. Excellent customer service skills, along with the ability to remain calm in all situations are a must.
95% Client Intake and Registration
- Greets and assists clients and their families during the admission process.
- Collects and verifies patients demographic information, insurance details and consent forms.
- Effectively communicates client rights/responsibilities, consent for treatment and completion of all intake paperwork, as required by MHSD policies and procedures.
- Desires to work collaboratively and cooperatively with team of HATS including providing coverage at other clinics as needed
- Confirms client identification and ensures compliance with privacy regulations
- Answers incoming calls, responds to inquires and directs calls to the appropriate staff members
- Maintains clean and effective communication with clinical staff, nurses and physicians regarding client admissions
- Informs clients and families of the clinic's policies, procedures and expectations
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains client records and admission documentation
- Ensures the Mental Health Center Manager stays informed of any issues and/or challenges
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives/trainings to remain current of best practices.
5% Performs other HAT Duties as Assigned
