This advanced position assists the Prescott Memorial Library, through its User Services Division, in the provision of books, articles, and other information-bearing items to the students, faculty, and staff of Louisiana Tech University, as well as other duly authorized users.
It is a highly service-oriented post, demanding the ability and willingness to work respectfully, cooperatively, and effectively with all members of the User Services Staff, the Library Staff, and the University Community and its friends, requiring competent reading, computing, office-equipment, and supervisory skills, necessitating an ability and willingness to enforce and follow University and Library policies and procedures, and involving moderate standing, lifting, and stair use.
Said assistance principally includes the timely, effective, and efficient delivery of books, articles, and other materials requested by authorized borrowing libraries and information providers and, as applicable, restoration of each item to the library's collection on its return to the Library.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in which clerical work was a major duty, two years of which must have been in clerical library work.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience.
Completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for one year of the required general experience.
College training will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience.
A baccalaureate degree will substitute for all of the required experience.
NOTE:
Business or technical school training with less than completion will only be credited in six month increments. Similarly, college training will only be credited in 15 semester hour increments.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Library Specialists typically report to a Library Specialist Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over lower level personnel.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Library Specialist 2 by the presence of advanced level duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Performs highly specialized library duties such as microfilming, preservation, archival processing, etc.
Provides detailed information on library services and answers questions from library patrons. Instructs patrons in the use of library systems, print/electronic indexes, internet resources, etc.
Resolves complex problems related to the use of bibliographic records such as complicated serial title changes, special languages and/or formats, etc.
Coordinates bindery or restoration and repair activities for a library. Solves bindery problems and determines the appropriate style or alternative treatment of materials.
Edits problematic bibliographic entries for online automated system using accepted library standards and procedures.
Monitors and ensures accuracy and consistency of information in databases.
May recommend and implement changes in library policies and procedures.
May assist in planning and conducting training programs or workshops, both internally and externally.
May serve on standing and ad hoc committees.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
60% Processes interlibrary loan requests from authorized borrowing libraries, including locating requested books and other materials in the library's collection, forwarding them to their borrowing libraries, and securing the timely return of books so loaned, as well as the keeping of such records and the preparation and distribution of such reports as may be useful in identifying current and future interlibrary loan usage for lending. Send overdue book emails and lost book invoices to borrowing libraries. Keep up to date with current Interlibrary Loan trends and communicates with other ILL departments through various ILL listserves such as ILL-L, LOUISILL, Workflowtoolkit-L, views training videos by Atlas Systems through Louis Training Subscriptions. This position represents the library at state Interlibrary Loan meetings along with the Library Specialist Supervisor
20% Supporting the Circulation/Reserves Division of the User Services Department by the checking-inand-out of books and materials using Sirsi Workflows, performing more general or specific user services-related tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Supervisor of User Services, included but not limited to providing auxiliary reserves, circulation and general information service to users. Assists the supervisor with InterLibrary Services-Borrowing and Science Direct Document Delivery
20% Serves as backup to oversee/direct the nights and weekend desk duties of student assistants during the extended hours of Finals week for the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarter. Perform closing procedures of the library (building and floors). Assists in the training of 3 graduate assistants in the processing and delivery of Interlibrary Loan requests using ILLiad, Odyssey, and OCLC Article Exchange. Consults with supervisor on possible changes in Interlibrary Loan workflow.
