Job Description:
This is technical services work in performing difficult and moderately complex engineering duties in a variety of field and office engineering specialties. Position will function as the Department's Inspector or Resident (on simple projects), as assigned, on a variety of Multimodal Program projects. Project scopes will vary and may include traffic/signal improvement projects, roadway lighting, railroad facilities improvements, and marine/port facility construction. Duties include assisting the Construction Manager and Project Managers with problem solving as they relate to the design and construction of assigned projects. Project specific duties will include construction layout verification and inspection and documentation of work activities to ensure Contractor compliance with Maine DOT project plans, specifications, and details. Additional duties include assisting in the preliminary engineering phase of projects within the Program, such as plan development & checking, estimating quantities, plan constructability review, and construction contract book review. Supervision is exercised over subordinate technical personnel performing moderately complex tasks. Work is performed under limited supervision.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
Five (5) years of experience in engineering –OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and three (3) years of experience in engineering -OR- a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of experience in engineering.
