Job Description

About this position:
Statewide Integrated Governmental Management Applications (SIGMA) is housed within State Budget Office and is the backbone for the State of Michigan government operations, supporting budget, financial management, procurement, timekeeping and labor cost allocation, inventory management, and grant/project accounting.

The role of SIGMA support staff is to support the daily operations of the system, working towards continuous improvement of SIGMA’s functionality, providing training and help desk resources to users.

As a SIGMA Help Desk Technician, you will:

  • Develop positive relationships with callers to identify resolutions for issues of varying SIGMA applications.
  • Participate in special projects which may include creating spreadsheets and word documents.
  • Work with a devoted team that is focused on supporting agencies in SIGMA application questions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Location/Remote Office: The office location is in Lansing, MI. This position is eligible for remote work up to five days per week. The selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate workspace with minimum internet speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Please note that occasional onsite work at the official work location in Lansing for training, staff meetings, etc. is required. Currently, the State of Michigan is unable to offer employment to non-Michigan residents that do not plan to relocate.

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.


Alternate Education and Experience

Departmental Technician (Trainee) 7

Two years of experience in a 7 level or higher non-administrative support ECP Group One classification.

OR

One year of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

What does Limited Term in this position mean to me?
Limited Term is an appointment which has an expiration date. For this position, the Limited Term assignment will begin on the date of hire and expire two years from the date of hire unless extenuating circumstances require the position be ended earlier than 24 months. A limited-term appointment is a career appointment with a fixed ending date when the appointment is made. Limited-Term SIGMA employees are encouraged and supported in seeking permanent employment within the State of Michigan at the appointment end.

The State Budget Office is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the state budget, including development of the Executive Budget recommendation, monitoring the budget to ensure continued fiscal balance, and other budgetary analysis functions.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.

Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums.

Military Pay Differential: Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
