Salary: $1523 - $1725 semi-monthly

Job Location: This position is with The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality and will be located at the Environmental Services Program, 2710 West Main St., Jefferson City, MO 65109.

The laboratory provides chemical analysis to help ensure the public has safe drinking water, clean streams and clean air. The laboratory is a fast-paced work environment and receives more than 25,000 samples annually. What you’ll do:

  • Work and train as a Laboratory Scientist in the Wet Chemistry Laboratory within the Inorganic Unit of the Chemical Analysis Section
  • Analyze drinking water, waste water, ground water, and surface water samples by flow injection spectrophotometric analysis. Analysis includes sample preparation by an appropriate method, chemical preparation, instrument set up, operation, and data collection
  • Analyze drinking water, waste water, ground water, and surface water samples by gravimetric analysis
  • Analyze drinking water samples by ion chromatography
  • Analyze pH of water, soil, and organic samples
  • Conduct routine calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment used in laboratory analysis
  • Write and review standard operating procedures
  • Review data generated by the various instrumentation for completion, accuracy, quality, and importing the data into our Laboratory Information Management System
  • Peer-review data produced by fellow scientists within the laboratory
  • Receive formal on-the-job and/or classroom training on instrumentation

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 0-1 year relevant experience (Substitutions may be allowed.)
  • Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of 20 credit hours of college chemistry
  • Knowledge of laboratory terminology, procedures, computer information systems, and software
  • Knowledge of safety protocols for a chemistry laboratory
  • Ability to perceive color with or without an accommodation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, and management
  • Ability to lift, move, and transport samples and/or supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter
