Why does the job exist?
The position exists to assist with propagation of pure genetic strains of Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout to be stocked into waters designated under the RGCT restoration management plan and assist with the distribution of rainbow trout stocking in compliance with the statewide stocking schedule. To ensure the delivery of our product and services to the citizens of New Mexico and the customers and clients of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.
How does it get done?
Visual evaluation of daily production inventories to assess fish health and to determine daily task change recommendations for supervisor. Ensuring all tasks relative to production and distribution are completed. Participation in daily fish propagation activities and prioritization of daily tasks to ensure the most efficient use of available work time.
Who are the customers?
The position is for the public by providing a food supply and a recreational fishery along with RGCT for restoration management.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have experience or education in animal health, fisheries science, fish culture, wildlife science, natural science, biology, agriculture, animal husbandry, carpentry, auto mechanics, plumbing, welding and working with complex water delivery systems.
Minimum Qualification
Associate's degree in Agricultural Science, Aquaculture, Animal Science or Wildlife Science, or other closely related field and two (2) years in farm or ranch related experience including basic construction, electrical, and plumbing skills, heavy and farm equipment operation/maintenance, fisheries and/or wildlife habitat management. Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
This position is primarily in an outdoor setting around 90% which consists of lifting weight in excess of 50 pounds, bending, standing, and operating machinery. The additional 10% is in an office setting completing required reports. The position may occasionally require overnight travel and working in inclement conditions. The position also requires the employee to work standby duty which will require the employee to remain on the facility continuously (24 hours) for 7 (seven) consecutive scheduled days.
