Purpose of Position

Why does the job exist?
Under the direction of the Recreation Director in a long-term care facility this position will assist in organizing, promoting, implementing and conducting recreational therapy programs.
How does it get done?
Incumbent will lead and direct resident, with various levels of ability, in recreational activities as part of a therapeutic medical/ psychotherapeutic treatment program. This position will perform daily assessments of residents' level of participation in recreational programs, appropriateness of program for each resident, progress or lack of progress towards established therapeutic goals and documentation of observations.

The primary customer are the brave men and women that answered our nations call, executed their duties and now are unable to live in their respective communities due to failing health. This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents)
Ideal Candidate
Possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate from the State of New Mexico
Possess a valid New Mexico drivers licenses
Have experience with providing services to residents in a long-term care facility
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.
Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.
Working Conditions
Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.
The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Position will perform work indoors and outdoors and will require the ability to withstand hot mineral pool up to 101 degrees. Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, twisting, pushing and/or pulling objects over ninety (90) pounds with assistance may be required. Potential exposure to solvents, paint, fumes, irregular or extended work hours. Work is performed in an office/ long-term care facility setting, and includes verbal, electronic and written communication with residents and their families/friends and with facility personnel and community resources and may be exposed to communicable diseases. Extensive communication and interactions with agitated, angry or physically and/or verbally aggressive individuals. Some driving in a state owned vehicle. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources Office.
