The purpose of this position is to ensure that our facility has a department and/or system overseeing the safety and/or health related issues that may arise in our hospital which could potentially impact patient care on a daily basis.
Directly supervise the Maintenance/Housekeeping Supervisor, Warehouse Clerk and Safety Secretary; Provide as back up Manager for Maintenance and Housekeeping Dept.
The purpose of this position is to ensure that our facility has a department and/or system overseeing the safety and/or health related issues that may arise in our hospital which could potentially impact patient care on a daily basis.
(Supervisor): Directly supervise the Maintenance/Housekeeping Supervisor and Safety Secretary; Provide as back up Manager for Maintenance and Housekeeping Dept.
Ensures that facility is in compliance with NMAC regulations and Joint Commission standards on a daily basis (i.e. ensures fire extinguishers are inspected monthly and serviced annually & maintains documentation of annual service; initiates repair of any problems in the fire alarm/fire suppression systems; ensures documentation of annual Fire Marshall inspection (i.e. receives and reviews the inspection report when received, plans and initiates steps to correct identified deficiencies, submits a written response to the Fire Marshall within 30 days of inspection, and is the direct communicator with the Fire Marshall's office and records of corrective actions taken); updates all facility safety policies and/or procedures at least annually, to include Environment of Care and Life Safety Plan; maintains Safety Data Sheets, (SDS) for all current products being used at facility; conducts weekly safety walk with Hospital Administrator and Administrator, and Director of Nursing, (DON) and documents its outcome; facilitates fire drills as required; maintains and monitors video camera security system; ensures the video recorder is operational 24 hours per day, 7 days per week; in the event of system failure, promptly notifies the Office of Communications and insures that repairs are done promptly; addresses safety and/or health related issues on a daily basis to ensure optimal patient care.
Orient all new staff on the facility's safety procedures at the new hire orientation and/or as needed; Conduct refresher (ongoing) training on center safety procedures for all staff according to the schedule set by the training coordinator; act as facility representative with other safety related organizations (i.e. work with NM DOH Bureau of Health Emergency Management, participate in EMResource for HAVBed and HAN (health alert network, Representative for TLH in the Albuquqerque Regional Coalition Healthcare Preparedness, (Region 4) Coalition monthly meetings and exercises, Participation in all assigned duties related to the DOH Incident Command System (ICS), provides assistance to the Administration concerning special projects such as renovations or construction.) Facilitates monthly meetings with the landlord; Chairs the Environment of Care Committee meetings, (formally known as the Safety Committee) and participates in Incident Management Committee Meeting as needed

Experience with a safe & secure environment;

Experience implementing policies, procedures, and competencies;
Experience in compliance with State, Federal and The Joint Commission standards.
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
